Parqet vs Portfolio Performance
Portfolio Performance is a fantastic and recommendable open-source tool for calculating your own portfolio performance. To my knowledge, it is the de-facto standard in Germany for investors. You can download Portfolio Performance for free here.
Parqet as an Alternative to Portfolio Performance
Parqet users regularly ask me what the difference is between Parqet and Portfolio Performance, or why I'm developing Parqet at all. I'd like to address that here.
I've been using Portfolio Performance since I started investing and still do today. Over the years, I wanted a new tool that would enable my portfolio analysis a bit differently:
- Dashboard I wanted an all-in-one overview for my holdings, their performance, my activities, dividends and portfolio metrics. This became the overview of our portfolios in Parqet.
- Online and Mobile Being able to view my portfolio performance on the go or from other computers was unfortunately not possible with Portfolio Performance, as it's a local installation. I'd long wanted a tool with which I could view my portfolio performance online and also on mobile. Parqet is available as a mobile-optimized website as well as a standalone iOS app. An Android app is in development.
- Community Features As investors, we naturally also exchange a lot about finance and investment topics. I'd long wanted a feature to share my portfolio with others. Parqet therefore supports sharing portfolios. Users can make their portfolio public and simply share it via a link to exchange ideas with other investors or get inspired. - Automation Unfortunately, German banks and brokers don't have interfaces to automatically import portfolios - but you can automate some necessities in portfolio calculation with a lot of work. My goal with Parqet is the highest possible comfort through automation. For example, automatically creating holdings and activities, including valid ticker symbols and price histories, just from a PDF.
- Simple Portfolio Performance is powerful and therefore has a relatively complex user interface. This can quickly overwhelm beginners on the stock market. With Parqet, I want to offer beginners a simple, free entry point and introduce various topics like rebalancing and dollar-cost averaging.
These, among other points, are the important reasons why I decided to build my own solution. Parqet emerged from this:
Parqet is free to use
From the beginning, it was important to me to make Parqet as accessible as possible. For this reason, the vast majority of Parqet's features are free to use.
In addition to the free basic plan, there's the option for ambitious investors to support Parqet as a Plus subscriber. This unlocks extra features such as more portfolios or watchlists.
Parqet is continuously being developed
In the meantime, Parqet has developed into one of the most-used portfolio tracking apps. More than 100,000 investors in Germany use Parqet to calculate and visualize their portfolio performance.
Together with the community, Parqet is constantly evolving. In addition to classic portfolio tracking, you can create watchlists, manage cryptos and cash, create notes and much more.
